Sandra
(Sandy) E. Lacey, Associate Pastor
Sandy was born in Columbia City, Indiana, on September 9, 1960. When her father retired from factory work in 1970, the family moved to Central Florida where she graduated from high school in 1979. After graduating from FSU in three years, she worked for the Baptist Children’s Home in that area before moving to Louisville, KY to begin seminary education at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary there. Changes in the denomination and the school discouraged her further work there, and she left after two years.
Sandy brings a valuable and varied work experience to Evergreen. While in Louisville and later in south Alabama, she worked in the social work field for over 20 years, which included managing a department of twelve social workers. Most of her social work career was centered in the medical fields: nursing homes, rehabilitation facilities, hospice crisis units, and home health settings. In addition, she has worked in homeless shelters, adoption counseling, and as pastoral assistant in Christ Presbyterian in Daphne, Alabama. While in Atlanta, Sandy participated in youth mission trips as a chaperone and leader. Her community experience includes serving as a band parent, a Boy Scout committee person, and a volunteer for the Presbyterian Habitat Build.
After accepting leadership positions in the Presbyterian Church over the years, Sandy began exploring the possibility of completing her Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree. Through a gradual process in which she felt God forming her faith, Sandy began to understand her new sense of call toward pastoral ministry. With support from her family and merit scholarships, she and her family moved to Atlanta where she attended Columbia Theological Seminary 2004-2007. After graduation from seminary, she did supply preaching at various churches within the Presbytery before joining Evergreen’s staff on January 1, 2008.
Sandy's husband, Mike, is locally employed, and their sons, Paul and Patrick, attend college.
Sandy's duties focus on Youth and Educational Ministry and include general Associate Pastor responsibilities as well.
